Global warming, also referred to as climate change, has disturbed the Eco System with disturbance in temperature of the Earth's climate system, and its related effects us directly and indirectly. Studies also show that the climate system is is changing at alarming speed as a result voice are being raised for the effects of global warming and to save the “Green Gold”.
Global warming effects are on rise, which not only lead to increase in temperature but also lead to decline in water resources as well as portable water. Researchers have proved that the major cause of global Warming is cutting of trees in large scale resulting into dangerous effects.
The Unprecedented weather changes is also the result of decreasing Green Gold and the deforestation resulted into prompt consumption of wetlands and different wellsprings of water became dry. Although several times plantation drives were conducted but in most of the cases after few years the plantation drives failed to give desired results in absence of regular keep up.
Talking to Young Bites experts say that no new trees were planted and the circumstance is that we don't have deodar and kail trees in woodlands. They blamed the faulted the nexus between the land mafia and the authorities for large scale deforestation.
As per the reports the forest cover in Jammu and Kashmir is 22,539 sq km which is almost 10 % of the total geographical area whereas the tree cover outside the forest area is 6,550 sq km which is 2.95 per cent of the total geographical area of the state.
Decades ago the forest cover in Jammu and Kashmir was so rich and dense that several areas were considered the best in Asia. In past demarcation was done between villages and forest land where as the in between land was declared as buffer area. With opening of more and more forest departments the cutting of trees both legally and illegally continued for several years without acknowledging the facts that after few decades we will face the impact of Global warming.
Unless and until necessary steps are not taken to safe guard the Green Gold with plantation drives and a commitment for their upkeep the situation will not change and the State of Jammu and Kashmir will also suffer the impacts of Global Warming
