Border Youth Hopeful for Early Start of Recruitment in New Reserve Battalions

In the month of March the decision of Union Government for raising of two Reserve Battalions of Police from border districts of Jammu and Kashmir is a welcome move which aims helping the youths from border districts of Jammu and Kashmir, who are facing unemployment. A per the announcement youth living along the International Border (IB) as well as Line of Control (LoC), living within 10 kilometers of IB and LoC will be inducted to these battalions and the raising of two new police battalions would give recruitment to almost 2000 border youth.
It is worthwhile to mention here that Rajnath Singh during his visit to Nowshera sector on the LoC in September 2017, had promised that brave youth from the border belts of Jammu and Kashmir will be recruited in police through special recruitment for Reserve Police Battalions and with the announcement by the youth from border villages are feeling hopeful towards better future.
The Ministry of Home Affairs which was working on the proposal has now been finally approved and a decision to this effect was conveyed last month to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir asking the state government to set up the process expeditiously for raising the two battalions one from border areas of Jammu and one from border areas of Kashmir with 1000 police personal from Jammu and 1000 police personal from Kashmir respectively for both the battalions. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will fully fund the two battalions, which were expected to be raised at the cost of Rs 105 crore approximately.
Talking to Young Bites Correspondent, Rahul Jojra residing near the border village of RS Pura said that it is indeed a welcome step as people near border villages especially the youth are facing lot of hardship due to disturbances.
He farther added that this decision will definitely help us to channelize the border youth towards serving the Nation and also improve the livelihood of the people living near borders.
The move aims to ensure that youth living near border areas within 10 Km are covered in recruitment process in Reserve Police battalions from the villages near IB as well as LoC. As of the fact generally, the people living residing in five kilometers from IB and LoC are treated as the border dwellers.
A per the announcement the battalions will be fully raised within a period of two years and criteria for recruitment of the youth will be same as is applicable in other Reserve Battalions. The State Government has asked to maintain transparency and speed up the process after completing requisite formalities.
