The royal cultural imprints in Jammu and Kashmir are fast losing their sheen due to political neglect, especially in Jammu region which saw discrimination since the fall of the Dogra dynasty in 1947. As Mubarak Mandi restoration plan hangs fire.
Therefore, for giving a fillip to the pace of work on Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex, ongoing work on the prestigious project of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex should be completed within timebound.
However, the consultants must create a vision document for entire complex and accordingly set priorities for conservation and adaptive reuse of buildings. It is requisite to prepare a Master Plan for the entire Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex after conservation strategies for each and individual buildings will be worked out. While there should be swift completion of the work on Royal court and Darbar Hall that is already on finishing stages.
Notably, in the projects, the consultants have to first go in for structural investigations started which will be followed by Geo-Technical services for structural assessments of buildings and ground penetrating radar service to understand archaeological remains underground. Once completed, the radar mapping to document all existing buildings will be done and any deflection will be recorded before initiating work.
Pertinently, while it reported by the government that to make a beginning, working on a five-year road map serves the purpose but short-term strategies involving immediate structural stabilization including propping wherever needed must be integrated. It should bring in interpreted materials before starting formally and further instructed to light up the dark areas for people to walk in and see the restoration work going on. While it needs to carry out the work in such a way that no one will be barred from entering the complex while the agencies are executing the restoration work.
