Crime against Woman registered rise in previous years in J&K

Violence against women has become cause of concern and merely not confined to topic of discussion. In the past few years it has been seen that much emphasis is laid by Politicians, media and several Social organisations placing great focus on the issue due to continuously increasing trends during. As per the reports as many as 2.24 million such crimes were reported over the past decade.
The semantic meaning of “crime against women” is direct or indirect physical or mental cruelty to women. Crimes directed specifically against women and in which only women are victims are characterised as “crimes against women”.
Cruelty by husbands and relatives is the major crime committed against women across the country besides mental harassment at work places, and several other causes
Last year the State of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed increase in crime against woman as number of cases registered in the year 2017 was comparatively high than in the year 2016
As per the figures a total of 2915 cases were registered under crime against women as compared to a 3168 cases up to November 2017.
In the year 2016 rape cases- 262; abduction of females/girls- 775; molestation cases-1230; eve teasing- 155; dowry deaths-05, abetment of suicide- 144, cruelty by husband or other members of in-laws- 342; suppression of immoral trafficking- 01 were reported till December 2016.
However till November 2017, a total of 3168 cases under crime against women were reported in different nature i.e. Rape cases- 297; Abduction of females/girls- 877; Molestation cases-1363; Eve teasing- 122; Dowry Deaths-08, Abetment of suicide- 144, cruelty by husband or other members of in-laws- 355 while no case was reported in suppression of immoral trafficking.
Although rapes are becoming more frequently reported, many go unreported or have the complaint files withdrawn due to the perception of family honour being compromised.
The number of reported instances of crimes against women has been taken up seriously by Central and State governments, laying much emphasis by announcing and implemented one measure after another to ensure their safety.
The State Government with a view to take the issue seriously and to curb the crime against women has taken several steps like establishment of (6) Women Police station in the Districts of Rajouri, Jammu, Udhampur, Srinagar, Baramulla and Anantnag, for dealing the cases exclusively related to crime against women. Further, Government has recently sanctioned five(5) Women Police Stations for the districts of Doda, Kathua, Pulwama , Kupwara and Leh.
Taking serious note of increase in crime against woman round the clocks patrolling is beingconducted at vulnerable Places Particularly near Schools/Colleges/Universities to maintain vigil over miscreants /eveteasers.
