Sham Choudhary reviews functioning of I&FC Department Orders for early de-silting of canals

Reiterating the commitment of government to provide better irrigation facilities to the people of the state, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary directed the concerned for immediately taking up of de-silting of major canals in Jammu Division so that timely discharging of water in the canals is ensured.

Chairing a meeting of officers of Irrigation and Flood Control department convened here today to get first hand appraisal of various ongoing development projects and schemes under the sector and the steps taken to start de-silting work on Ranbir Canal, Ravi Tawi Irrigation Canal (RTIC) and other Canals of Jammu Division so that discharging of water on Baisakhi is ensured.

Directing the concerned for personally monitoring the de-silting process of canals to ensure its timely completion, the Minister asked for carrying out repair and renovation of damaged canals and irrigation tube wells in the Division so that the farmers do not face any inconvenience during the harvest seasons. He also exhorted upon the officers to redouble their efforts and work for the betterment of the people, adding that any laxity in this regard would not be tolerated.

Earlier, the Chief Engineer briefed the meeting about the activities of the Department. It was informed in the meeting that the de-silting on RTIC and modernization works are apace in Kathua area.

Among others, Secretary, PHE, I & FC, M Raju, Chief Engineer, Irrigation Jammu, Chief Engineer Ravi Tawi, Chief Engineer, Irrigation Kashmir, all SEs and Executive Engineers of Irrigation and Mechanical Department of Jammu division.
