In our weekly section of Talk Show, YoungBites correspondent Vikas Gupta interacted with Dr Rakesh Sharma, Deputy Superintendent Govt. Medical College Jammu. Here are the excerpts:
VG: So many people are getting injured every day in the cross border firing, what are the steps being taken for their help?
RK: The injured people in cross border firing are being taken care. On 29th Jan, Divisional Commissioner came in GMC and he directed to do all the test including CT Scans, MRI, Blood tests and any other test free of cost. The people who have fractures will be provided instruments free of costs from outside states.
VG: GMC does not provide Critical Care ambulances. If patients have to be taken to other states then they have to hire Private critical care ambulances which charge hefty amount, why?
RK: In Jammu province, Rajouri, Poonch have such ambulances. We have written letter to Health inister for 4 Critical Care Ambulances in GMC.
VG: So many accidents occur every day in our state in which many people get injured. If there is a landing facility of helicopters in hospitals, then many peoples precious lives can be saved. What is your say?
RK: yes, it is true that if there is facility of helicopter landing in hospitals, then many people can be saved.
VG: How many beds are there in GMC?
RK: As per Medical Council Of India, Small Hospitals should have 300-500 beds. Medium Hospitals should have 500-700 beds. Large Hospitals should have 700-1000 beds.GMC comes under Large Hospital category. It has 900 beds in wards and 223 beds in emergency ward.
VG: What new facilities are being provided to the patients in GMC?
RK: Recently our Health Minister has inaugurated New Recovery Ward which is meant for the patients who have undergone surgery. Blood bank extension block has also been opened in GMC.
VG: There is no floor markings anywhere in GMC. The people find it difficult to locate wards. Why isn’t there proper markings in GMC?
RK: With proper permissions from MLA these kind of Hospital development works are possible.
VG: GMC lacks basic fire extinguishing services? Why?
RK: I have recently joined here, in order to install new fire extinguishers Rs 13 Lac have been granted by the govt.
