In Udhampur’s District Hospital, there is a shortage of doctors, staff, and even medical equipments, as the patients are suffering and are not attended to properly, alleged patients and their attendants.
With the lack of infrastructure and other facilities, including lack of staff to run Trauma Centre as machines of the centre are still out of service since the day of installation.
Shocking it may sound but it is a harsh reality that the Trauma Centre in Udhampur’s District Hospital is in the state of distress and is not achieving the objectives behind their establishment mainly because of non-serious approach towards making them functional in the real sense. What to talk of other facilities, the Trauma Centre is even lacking the adequate manpower despite the fact that Governor N N Vohra had issued explicit directions for making them fully operational more than years back.
It was expected to be a unit of development when the District hospital initiated with the new trauma centre a few months back. The town was in all glooms knowing that a facility was to be seen in the hospital. Providing the hospital with a trauma center was taken care of but unfortunately, it was forgotten that just having machines would not be enough.
The hospital lacks hygiene. Even the attendants who come with patients are likely to fall sick if they stay in the hospital for few days.
The government is not portraying clear picture on trauma centre. He added that every time in the reply, the government claimed that the trauma centre in Udhampur is complete but it is not the fact. There is no medical or para-medical staff. Trauma centre is incomplete. There is no facility in the Centre and it is lying defunct.
How unfortunate is for the needs and health necessities of poor of the Udhampur town, Udhampur has always been that one district like many others where there have always been provided partial provisions
It has been months that the so-called trauma centre is subdued and stranded just like it started due to lack of staff and everything else that is required to run a trauma centre. No availability of nursing staff is there. Sad is the fact that there is nobody to even take care of the operating aspect of the mentioned centre. Not even complete machinery is there. It can be seen that things are being done just for the sake of doing. Not to actually meet up with the needs of the public. Lack of paramedical and medical staff in hospitals is something the whole state is facing. After having spoken to the medical superintendent of District hospital Udhampur, he too showed his disappointment and helplessness due to lack of staff. “No one cares about us here. They do not inform if they are closing the hospital for a day. There is no information on which doctor is available on which day,” said a patient. MLA Pawan Gupta walked out of the assembly after raising the issue of lack of facilities, medical staff to be precise in the hospital. He showed and bluntly spoke about his disappointments in the current Government.
