In the weekly section of Talk Show, Vikas Gupta Correspondent Youngbites in conversation with Anil Wadhera, State Sports Council, Boxing Coach.
VG: Since you are the coach in boxing, what medals you have won?
AW: I have been a National Player in my time. I have been nine times National Champions in Sub-junior Nationals. I have won bronze medals in 1986-87 North India. I have even won medals in Junior/Senior Invitation Tournament from J&K.
VG: What were your merits to be selected as Boxing Coach in sports council?
AW: In 1994-95 after getting training from NIS i.e. National Institute of Sports Patiala, I got selected as Boxing Coach.
VG: What is the performance of players whom you give training?
AW: The players from Jammu have won gold medals in Sub-junior Nationals and bronze medals in 2007. Other than this, our player Mohd Riaz has been selected in India camp.
VG: We want to see the players of J&K in the Olympics of 2020-2024. Is this possible in near future?
AW: Yes, as per the govt. scheme, 30 girls and 30 boys will be selected for the Olympics. Vinod Bhardwaj, Viney Pratap, and Ishant Malik from Rajouri have been selected for Olympics Camp.
VG: As per SRO how many people have been selected for jobs in Boxing?
AW: Most of the players have been selected in Army, CRPF, BSF, Assam Rifles on the basis of their merits in Boxing.
