Number of Dengue cases swell in Jammu, authorities facing the heat

Like every year, the number of cases with dengue fever has been swelled in Jammu, but it seems that the authorities are still not prepared to tackle with this outbreak.
Pertinent to mention, within two days, thirteen more dengue cases were reported today in Jammu district, taking the number of people affected so far with this vector-borne disease in Jammu region to 129.
According to official sources as on today, a total of 933 patients were tested for dengue out of which 129 cases were found to be positive and reports of 540 were found negative while result of 264 samples are still awaited.
Talking to the Young Bites, a senior doctor posted at SMGS, said that out of 129 Dengue cases, maximum 118 have been reported in Jammu district, two each in Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Udhampur districts and one each in Poonch, Kishtwar and Doda districts.
“Out of these 129 dengue patients, 92 were adults (53 males and 39 females) and 37 were children (21 males and 16 females),” he further added.
So far Dengue has not claimed any life in Jammu region and most of the patients affected with the disease have returned to their home after successful treatment in various hospitals.
The outbreak of dengue and swine flu has created panic in Jammu as 14 more cases of dengue and one case of H1N1 flu were found positive in the past 24 hours in the region.
The department said doctors at Government Medical College (GMC) among all the district hospitals were regularly getting patients with high fever and other symptoms of dengue.
“All the precautionary measures had been taken and preparations were started a month before and all the hospitals were provided testing kits and other medicines and equipment. The department has also started an awareness campaign and teams at the airport and railway stations have also been alerted,” said a senior doctor.
