The alarming rise of fundamentalism is a great concern to the nation. Almost all the States of our country suffer owing to religious intolerance. Inter-communal relationship suffers a breach in this vitiated atmosphere. Our unity, integrity and solidarity is now at stake. It hampers the growth of the nation at every step. If the nation wishes to make sound progress in the socio-economic, political and scientific spheres, communal harmony has to be ensured as a permanent feature of life. Evil forces trying to destroy this should be crushed at any cost. It is also our duty spread the message of importance of communal harmony. The people need some awakening and joint efforts by enlightened people of all communities, as peace is good for all and strife is harmful to everybody. It is said that the two nation theory that led to the partition of our country, sowed the real seeds of communal disharmony. But, we should all consider ourselves Indian first and last.We must understand that India is constitutionally a secular country where people of all religions, castes and creeds can live enjoying equal rights and opportunities for progress and have the same stake in the welfare of the nation.Let us all forget our petty religious differences, if any and live like brothers and celebrate jointly each other’s festivals and make India a great power to reckon with. youth in India is both a catalyzing and galvanizing factor in promoting harmony between different religions. It is this segment which will bring about change, long- term, in both attitudes and laws. The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and any change fostered in the large-scale psyche of a nation is largely led by its youth. The power of social media in spreading change is hugely underestimated. An increasingly tech-savvy generation of young people understands how to utilize social media to spread the message of peace and love. Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp and blogs were major factors in effecting change after the December 2012 Delhi rape case. Widespread condemnation of the rape, both on social media and on the streets, led to legal action, like the Verma Report, arrest and conviction of the culprits, and starting the Nirbhaya fund for survivors of gender violence. People pay more attention to what they see and read on social media, than we can imagine. This is an important tool in bringing about social harmony.India has set an important example of communal harmony to this world. India is the only country of the world where people of all religion and beliefs have been living peacefully for a long time. It is important to note that even during the reign of British, there was no tension among the various religious people.India, a multi-religious, multilingual and multi-racial country, has always ‘enjoyed the essential unity of culture amidst diversities that kept her people united. After independence, narrow religious, regional and communal feelings attracted the country. The apparently mindless communal tensions and bloody riots that take place occasionally create a sense of mistrust among the two principal religious communities involved in clashes. The country pays a heavy price for such disturbances through loss of life and property. Unfortunately, this traditionally peace-loving country is sometimes plagued by communal problems. It all happens as some fanatical zealots indulge in torturing the people of other religion.
