Suffering from malady for long

Frequent disconnection or interruption while talking on phone is a routine in every part of state, Subscribers feel cheated when telecom companies come up with a huge list of plans for the customers knowing fully that people in the state are not able to fully utilise the services. They feel cheated when they go outside the state and get first-hand experience of good mobile and internet services. “All network operators, including state-owned BSNL, are only interested in increasing the number of customers, but not in raising infrastructure to give good connectivity and providing satisfaction to customers. While cellular service providers have starting advertising for 4G connection, the 2G and 3G signals are not even functioning properly. Policymakers should urgently take steps to enhance Net connectivity across the country, both in terms of reach and efficiency. Without such an expansion and improvement in Internet speeds, it will not be long before users seek to abandon their quest for digital payment modes and switch to heavy cash transactions. The problems are acute in urban areas too. In fact, because of the larger user base in larger cities, the Net service is often adversely impacted. Commercial establishments like banks have been suffering from this malady for long.Cyber crime is a challenge to law enforcing agencies. Cyberspace has been acknowledged as the fifth domain of human activity, the others being land, sea, air and outer space. Law enforcement agencies are required to have a dependable capacity to deal cyber crimes. State has faced many situations since last three decades and in present times many anti-social elements are making enough use of technology for spreading their designs. In such situation JK Police is required to have a dependable capacity to deal with cybercrimes. Law Enforcing agencies need to be ahead of the criminals while dealing with cyber issues and hence should know how best to use the IT devoices and software. JK Police need to change their tactics by remaining updated technologically as criminals and other anti social elements are changing their tactics. While people in other parts of the country are reaping the benefits of the telecom revolution, mobile phone and internet users in Jammu and Kashmir are bogged down by poor connectivity. Slow internet speed and frequent call drops mock the claims of telecom companies, which are taking people for a ride and have failed to improve their services, despite J&K being among the fastest growing mobile subscribers state in India. What to talk of rural areas of the state, even in capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar customers of BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone, Aircel, Reliance and Idea Cellular are having frustrating times due to call drop, while internet speed makes one wonder will the services ever get better. Worst is the broadband service provided by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) as surfing net leaves people with bitter experience. “While on internet, especially on BSNL broadband, refreshing same page again and again with repeated failure in downloading is quite exasperating.
