People of Jammu region, who had voted for the saffron party on the name of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, were hoping against hope that BJP might work for the welfare of people of the Hindu-majority Jammu region and will address both the issues, development as well as ideological.But these two years have seen a paradigm shift by the BJP ministers and legislators who never cared for the welfare of people of Jammu. Rather, few ministers and legislators only cared for their personal benefit and never gave preference to addressing peoples’ problems. It has been observed during these two years that Jammu has lacked behind in development and hasn’t seen any forward movement. After being selected for the coveted Smart City Mission, Srinagar now faces a major challenge in the terms of implementation of the project, given the tardy execution of earlier government programmes. Since the Smart City status means that over 100 projects will be taken up, Srinagar has to adopt a dynamic approach for their implementation. However, the present pace of work continues to be slow. The construction of the flyover from Jehangir Chowk to Rambagh, started in 2013, has already missed two deadlines so far and is now scheduled to be completed by the year-end. Despite a major investment in various road, building, tourism, housing and cultural projects, the summer capital continues to be in a mess. With a population of over 12 lakh, the city is facing bottlenecks in terms of roads, traffic and solid waste management. Srinagar has 750 heritage structures but lacks proper management for them. For the summer capital, the Smart City status spells a relief from bad roads, blocked drainage and lack of basic civic amenities. The Smart City projects in Jammu and Srinagar will be implemented at the cost of Rs 3,600 crore and Rs 3,800 crore, respectively, that will be provided by the Central government and different departments through private-public partnership.The twin capitals of Jammu and Kashmir have made it to the smart cities’ list. The announcement of Smart City status for Srinagar and Jammu will ensure the planned and holistic development of these capital cities so that they are replete with every modern facility of urban living. This initiative sustained development of these twin cities will take place on the modern and scientific basis so that the people living in these cities get the facilities at par with some of the most developed cities of the world. It is due to the accommodative and visionary approach of centre that Jammu and Srinagar cities have also been selected under this initiative. At least people of Jammu agrees on one thing,that Whole Jammu province has been neglected over the years with respect to Kashmir issue. Non-willingly, doing nothing wrong people of Jammu suffered the massive loss on the social as well as economic development front. Which is clearly due to continuous unrest in the valley? The Government only focused on Kashmir and Neglected the Jammu for quite some time now. Jammu lacks behind in Infrastructure, Healthcare system etc.This time the central government of India has given an opportunity to people of Jammu,as this time Jammu is also contesting for a smart city. Being selected as the smart city,Jammu will transform into a way better place for living. Every section of the public services will intensify and improve. People will get 24X7 electricity and water supply,state of the art infrastructure will be developed in the state, People will have better access to world-class education and Health care facilities, transportation will run smooth, there will no more traffic problem moreover Wifi hotspots all over the city.
