Many schools in our state have not till date painted their schools buses yellow, forget about the use of latest technology for students safety. But lessons should be learned from history. The brutal murder of a 7year old innocent boy Pradyuman Thakur who studied in Gurgaon's Ryan International School, has shattered the whole nation. The big question mark: Are the schools really concerned about the student’s safety? This brutal assault and murder must prompt schools in the country to implement more stringent measures that ensure the safety of students. No parent should ever have the ill-fate of sending their child to school in the morning and never have them return. In this digital era, the schools need to make the best use of technology to safeguard their students. It is the high time that the technology be incorporated in order to keep a track on each and every student in best possible way.
From ID cards that double as tracking devices to audio-recording facilities in washrooms, school administrations should explore various options to monitor their student’s safety in buses and on school premises.
The school to take the first step towards child safety is Delhi Public School Society. They have issued RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Card) I-Cards, which have a smart-tracking chip, to students. This allows schools and parents to know where their child is at any time as well as keep tabs on when a student boards a school bus or gets down, the Mirror reported.
This RFID system does not require to be swiped but enables tracking. Parents are alerted by an SMS when their kid/s board and de-boards the bus. The same happens when the child leaves school.
Another one, called the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, can be used in cards to track and monitor exact timings. Right from check-in, everything can be recorded. When they leave home as well, the NFC cards are used, so that we also have the exact timing.
Because CCTVs can’t be installed inside bathrooms, schools can have other options – like an audio-recording facility inside the toilet. Students can use this for any kind of help or emergency.
The work need to be done at war footing so that no innocent kid becomes victims of any malicious mind!
