Sabzar killing: Shutdown observed across Kashmir; clashes erupt in Trehgam

Clashes erupted in Trehgam village in northern part of Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday afternoon, reports reaching here said.

They said that authorities had imposed curfew like restrictions in the area fearing protests. However, youth despite restrictions came on roads and started pelting stones on police and paramilitary forces deployed in strength. Police and other forces retaliated triggering clashes in the area.
Pertinently, Kashmir Valley is observing complete shutdown on the second day on Monday against the killing of top Hizbul Mujahideen commander Sabzar Bhat, his aide Faizan and a civilian. While the militants were killed in an encounter, the civilian was killed in the ensuing clashes in Tral township were the encounter took place.

Shops and business establishments remained shut while major markets in the valley wore deserted looks. A very thin moment of traffic could be seen plying on the roads.

To “maintain law and order situation” in valley authorities have imposed curfew and restrictions in various towns of the valley and heavy deployment of forces on ground.

In Srinagar seven old city police station areas are under curfew while restrictions have been imposed in some volatile uptown areas.

Reports of severe restrictions also poured in from old town Baramulla, main town Sopore. “Minor clashes were witnessed in Batpora area of Sopore town.”

The streets of southern parts of Kashmir also remain deserted mourning the militant and civilian killings.

Reports said that there is a heavy deployment of forces and curfew like restrictions in Pulwama, Shopian, Islamabad, Tral and other parts.

They said that forces chased away stone pelting protesters in Tahab village of Pulwama today afternoon. “Youth assembled and started pelting stones on forces personnel deployed to maintain law and order. They retaliated to disperse the stone pelting youths.”
