UDHAMPUR EXCLUSIVE…… Illegal constructions flourishing in Municipal limits

SUMEET KARNAL SHARMA Udhampur, May 25 Municipal authorities main functioning is to keep a check on the structures being built in the area. They have to keep a check whether the structures are built as per plans, rules and laws under the municipal limits. But Udhampur Municipal Council Officials (U.M.C) are least bothered to check the constructions as per rule and regulations. As per RTI, Shop No 42 which is kitchen of renowned hotel at Gole market Udhampur was constructed illegally. The structure has been constructed under the nose of Municipality. The authorities are least concerned inspite of the fact that lot many complaints have been filed against the said construction. One of the social activists Vikram Singh said,” many officials and inspectors came to lift the street vendors and Rehris”. He further said,” the rules are only for poor people not for influential people. Some corrupt people in the department allow the influential business men to frame their own rules keeping the dignity and beauty of the town on edge. These sort of practices allow the other business men to carry out illegal constructions which will be very fatal in near future”. When contacted C.E.O Muncipality Santosh Kotwal regarding the matter he said,” we have written to the higher authorities, as soon as the matter got into my notice. The shop has been constructed way time back and we are waiting for the further order and assure proper enquiry and action”.
