Make cleanliness custom

It is disheartening to see that people disregard the cleanliness of the places they and their families and kids visit almost every day, we all need to develop a conscience towards keeping these places clean and setting a right example for the future generation. Apart from taking pride in the beauty, it is vital for all of us to maintain the beauty as well. It is human behaviour to criticize others for the fault just to escape from the responsibilities but we cannot blame JMC for every polythene bag thrown on the road or into streams. Although, there are places in Jammu where there is dearth of garbage containers but the citizens can definitely write to the authorities mentioning their demands and requirements. Besides, there is filth on roads, lanes, by-lanes which can cause problems for every person, be it a child or an elder person. People have this bad habit of throwing garbage on the roads instead of collecting waste and throwing it into the dustbin which leads to a problematic situation for the authorities.Our honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi started Swacchh Bharat Abhiyaan (Clean India Mission) campaign on October, 2, 2014 to aware people and make them responsible enough to keep their surroundings clean. Such important campaigns need to be carried forward instead of just celebrating one day and then moving on with daily routine. Sadly, every corner of the city looks rancid owing to the litter, blocked drainage etc. People need to clean dwellings but they do not want to make an effort for the same. The scattered garbage shows the poor conditions and irresponsible behaviour of the people.Public should realize and join hands with the authorities concerned in making Jammu city neat , clean and green. This is the call of the hour and let it become a slogan “Make Jammu neat clean and green.” As per record, there are more than 1,500 “Saffikaramcharis” in Jammu Municipality. Though, the strength is low for a bigger city like Jammu with a population over ten lakhs or so. The number needs to be raised and they should energize their efforts for the cleansing operation. There is need to focus people’s attention on the importance of planting trees and to sensitize them about environment issues. The problems of soil erosion, erratic rainfall, landslides, disturbed ecological balance and pollution are direct consequences of decreasing green cover. Green gold has an important role in maintaining fine balance of the ecosystem and increased green cover would go a long way in preserving the ecological balance on the planet. Parks have always been an integral part of modern ecosystem, being a place to relax, walk, interact and recreate. But people tend to ignore their duty to keep these parks clean and it is deeply disturbing to see these beautiful green spaces being turned into a dump yard.Making river Tawi healthy, with exploding population face to face with increase in number of vehicles, there is ever-mounting rush of heavy vehicles for cleansing in the only river Tawi. The practice should be lawful averted and defaulters brought to book. Apart from this, every sort of filth being dumped into the river thereby making it filth reddened. This as well warrants a complete check to restore back to its pristine glory and grandeur. On the same analogy, these as well warrant proper maintenance and cleanliness. All Jammuites should launch a mass campaign for its cleanliness and the concerned agencies together with NGO’s and all citizens shall have to extend full support.
