More than a dozen suffer pellet injuries in Shopian clashes; Operation called off

More than two dozen civilian protesters sustained injuries in Heff Shirmal area of Shopian in southern part of Kashmir during clashes with forces on Wednesday.

Massive clashes erupted in the area after forces cordoned off the area and started search operation.Locals informed Kashmir Life that more than a dozen injured have suffered pellet injuries and they have been shifted to different hospitals in Zainapora, Pulwama and Islamabad.

The locals also alleged that the forces personnel went berserk in the area and thrashed dozens of civilians during house to house searches.

“The forces personnel entered the homes of militant families and beat the inmates including womenfolk to pulp,” they alleged. They said that atleast five militants from the Heff-Shirmal belt are active militants.

“Army personnel ransacked dozens of residential houses during the operation and damaged properties,” locals alleged adding two youth Mairaj Ahmad Ganai and Khushal Hamid were also arrested by forces.

Forces during wee hours had cordoned Heff Shirmal area of Shopian district after input about the presence of militants.
