SRINAGAR: Various counter insurgency forces have laid a cordon of the Heff belt. Seemingly, it was laid on basis of intelligence about the possible presence of rebels in the area.

The belt is under the siege and no report of any formal clash with militants was reported. Troops have started searching the belt house to house. However, reports said the restive angry men are grouping at various places outside the cordon ring. There were a few clashes between the security men and youth as well.

The entire belt witnessed a massive cordon and search operation last week. Though the army and the paramilitary forces took house to houses searches of various villages, they faced stiff resistance in major villages preventing their entry.

The belt is considered a key hyper-sensitive area of the tense south Kashmir. In last one year, it has witnessed various clashes between the youth and various security agencies.

Reports suggest the police have information about the presence of rebels in the twin villages of Heff and Shirmal. Officiously no police official was willing to speak on record.
