VG: To boost the tourism sector, what are the future plans with the administration?
Div Com: Government is very keen to boost the ailing tourism sector in Jammu and to bring on the tracks of development, we are planning to introduce steps for the promotion of water sports. As there are many water bodies in Jammu and its surroundings. Lakes at Basholi, Bhadeerwah, Poonch, Rajouri and other areas are very suitable for the promotion of water sports in Jammu.
This is a new concept for tourists in Jammu and we hope that more tourists should visit there to spend some holidays here.
The State has huge talent and potential but what is required is to provide them with adequate facilities, infrastructure and motivation to excel.
I also want to share that with a view to promoting adventure tourism in Jammu region, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has sanctioned Rs 3 Crore for mountainous Doda district for the development of Water Sports Circuit on Baglihar Dam at Pul-Doda under the scheme ‘Integrated Development of Tourist facilities as Anantnag-Kishtwar-Pehalgam-Daksum-Ranjit Sagar Dam circuit under Himalayan Circuit Theme of Swadesh Darshan Scheme’. We are hopeful that work on this prestigious project should be started soon.
VG: Drug addiction is a serious issue, what is your take?
SDS: Really, Drug Addiction is a serious evil impacting our society. The time has come to weed out this menace from our society, which has deep routed among the youth of our state.
We are coming to know through various studies that this dangerous phenomenon is showing an abnormal increase. The need of the hour is that law enforcement agencies start to act and bring the drug peddlers to book .Drug Addiction is proving a nuclear catastrophe for our nation.
The religious scholars especially the priests of mosques also need to come forward to play a proactive role in curbing this menace. Our younger generation will vanish in tin air if this menace continues.
Meanwhile, for the complete eradication of this menace from our society, the police is running de-addiction centres, where drug addicts are providing free treatment by the professional doctors. We are trying our best to weed out this menace from Jammu and want that our future generation should become healthy.
VG: Concept of border tourism, failed to take off in Jammu, why?
Div Com: It is true that there is huge potential at our borders and we are also very keen to promote border tourism in a big way. We want to develop the Suchetgarh international border near Jammu on the pattern of the Attari-Wagah border in Punjab and infrastructure will be developed in the area to shore up tourist arrivals.
An amusement park will also be set up in Jammu near the 18-hole Sidhra Golf Course, which was inaugurated in October last year. “Nearby that golf course, we are going to create an amusement park at an investment of Rs 50 crore, which again will be in PPP mode.
The famous Bagh-e-Bahu garden in Jammu, a light and sound show project costing around Rs 15 crore is coming up.
VG: What steps have you taken to boost the morale of your officers/men?
SDS : To boost the morale among our officers, we hold general darbars and open meetings with the constabulary and officers. During which we heard their grievances and promised to redress them.
This is a routine affair and such type of interactions is organized by all the officers in their respective areas, where they interact with the people and address their grievances. I also want to inform the people, if they have any such genuine problem, then they can visit at my office and register their complaint for the early redress.
VG: What is your message to your men?
SDS: In my message I want to tell my men that I am the head of the police family and will always stand with my them. If they commit a genuine mistake, they could count on me. If there are no malafide intentions, am always willing to help them.
Meanwhile, for the people I want to assure that police is to here to serve them. It is our duty to the maintain a crime free society. So, that they can live and enjoy their life in a peaceful and better atmosphere.
