VG: You planned to make Gandhi Nagar a model constituency, what is the progress of development works in your constituency?
KG: It is true that I dream to make the Gandhi Nagar a model constituency and I am working hard to fulfill my dream. In this regard I toured to the different areas of my constituency and inspected the ongoing works under AMRUT in which deep drains worth Rs 40 crore are being constructed with an aim to channelize the flow of water and to prevent the same from overflowing during rainy season.
The rain water used to cause heavy damage to the life and property of people during the rainy season prior to his election as MLA from the area and the day I took over the charge by becoming the local representative; projects amounting to more than 200 crore have been brought to this constituency for the face lift and making this a Model Constituency.
VG: Despite of being a number of places, tourism failed to get boost in this constituency. Is there any plan with the government to boost tourism in this constituency?
KG: To arrange more facilities for the religious tourist as well as the prospective plan for the recreational tourist activities being planned for the area. In this regard, we reviewed the progress on the prestigious Cable Car Project, allied works besides focused development to bring this ancient holy temple firmly on the religious tourist circuit of Jammu.
We are laying stress on ensuring that the religious tourist that come to this holy site for pilgrimage are provided necessary facilities for their successful visit. So we have directed the concerned officials to undertake all necessary renovation, repair on various basic necessities including construction of Langer Shed for pilgrims, up-gradation/construction of toilet complex, repair work on the approach road, regular drinking water supply.
VG: Eco-friendly tourism, what is the government doing in this regard?
KG: We are laying focus on ensuring an eco-friendly, sustainable approach towards development of the area. Meanwhile, to preserve our environment and eco-system, we have to make constructive efforts at individual and community level. I also urged the concerned department to dissuade the use of plastic and other non-biodegradable product in the area and for development of proper solid waste management plan on scientific basis to ensure minimum negative human impact on the ecology of the area.
The Government is committed to ensure sustainable development of all tourist spots in the state. So concrete and innovative measures have been planned and will be systematically executed to preserve and promote the ecological and religious importance of this holy place.
