SS: It is true that due to heavy rains thousands of people has been affected but the state government is keen to provide all basic amenities to the people living in rural areas including better road connectivity, healthcare, quality education, adequate drinking water and power supply and timely supply of essential commodities. He said recent rains and landslides disrupted the supply of essentials and efforts are being made by the Government to restore the issue.
Regarding supply of rations to far flung areas like Marwah, Dacchan, Warvan and Padder, the government has decided to stock rations for 6 months in the areas that remain cut off during winters. The rations would be supplied and stocked during September every year which will also cut the expenditure on transportation.
VG: Many big road projects are still in the pipeline, when these projects shall be started?
SS: To strengthen the road network in the district, detailed project reports are being prepared to connect the unconnected habitations and upgrade the existing roads and in this regard 33 road projects involving an expenditure of Rs 25 crore are being taken up in the district in one go. The road projects include both links within the Kishtwar town and beyond and the tenders will be floated within few days to ensure early work.
VG: Blood bath on the hilly roads are still continue, is there any plan with the government to put an end to this blood bath?
SS: To put a complete end to this blood bath is our priority and in this regard, we always stressed upon the drivers to follow the road safety rules strictly to save their lives as well as to generate discipline in traffic management. Meanwhile, time to time we organize traffic week in every district to aware the people about the traffic norms but due to the mistake by driver many people lost their precious lives. These drives are simply a symbolic activity just to get the attention of the people towards road safety.
VG: Condition of SRTC is very bad, what steps will you take to bring this derailed department back on track?
SS: Though, the condition of SRTC is not good these days and it is entirely due to the negligent attitude of previous government, who failed to take any step to bring this derailed department back on the track.
JKSRTC is an important asset in the kitty of Government and every step will be taken to revive its glory. I want to assure the people that with the same set of people and same infrastructure, the Corporation which has run into losses for decades will see no losses during the financial year 2016-17. Under PPP mode, we have signed a MoU under which a fleet of top class AC buses will be introduced on different routes within two months.
